Supports National Children’s Mental Health Day
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) will celebrate the seventh anniversary of National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day. Communities across the country will observe this day with their own events, youth demonstrations, and social networking campaigns to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and to increase understanding about the mental health needs of children and their families. The national focus will also address strategies to assist military families in enhancing their resilience with the theme “Heroes of Hope.”
The Delaware Valley Art Therapy Association has agreed to support the National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day initiative to be celebrated on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 in cooperation with The Please Touch Museum® of Philadelphia. Observing the national theme, “Heroes of Hope”, children and family visitors will create hand puppets of their own heroes using puppet forms created by a local high school and art materials donated by the DVATA community. Our members will volunteer their services from 10am to 4pm.
